The UH Mānoa School of Travel Industry Management chapter of Eta Sigma Delta (ESD) Honor Society was selected Chapter of Distinction for the 2019-2020 school year from the International Council of Hotel, Restaurant and Institutional Education. The honor society for hospitality and tourism students was selected one of three top chapters from more than 500 chapters internationally.

“This academic year was definitely a challenging but rewarding year for the Eta Sigma Delta Honor Society,” says Chapter President Tara-Ann Marie Pacubas. “Our officers and members worked tirelessly throughout the year with this award as our goal. In doing so, we were able to give back to our community by volunteering and utilizing our leadership skills at various events.”

The UH Mānoa Chapter earned this distinction by participating in the National Clean-Day event organized by the Rotary Club of East Honolulu, Hawaii Foodbank’s CANstruction and Senior Food Box Drive, and the Hawaiian Humane Society PetBlock Paina. The chapter also organized the TIM School Freshman Mentorship Program and Professional Day.

TIM School Associate Professor and Chapter Advisor Ingrid Lin said, “This is the second time that the UH Mānoa ESD chapter has won the Chapter of Distinction Award. The last time our chapter won this award was in 2014.  I am very pleased to see our students continuously strive to reach beyond their potentials.”

About Eta Sigma Delta Chapter of Distinction Award
The ESD Chapter of Distinction Award recognizes a leading chapter for their efforts in advancing and upholding its 5 points of honor: Excellence, Leadership, Creativity, Service, and Ethics. This past year the service-learning theme was Hospitality in Your Neighborhood. Local chapters work in their communities to organize projects that support that theme while upholding the International CHRIE's five points of honor.
