Nearly 250 alumni, friends, college faculty and staff, and new Vietnam Executive MBA (VEMBA) graduates converged on Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam from July 11-13, 2019 for the Shidler College of Business’ inaugural Global Leadership Summit. The event drew world-class Shidler faculty, speakers from multiple countries, and distinguished global alumni together to explore business opportunities and exchange experiences and ideas on business trends.

In the U.S. News & World Report ranking for 2020, Shidler College of Business was ranked 15th in international business and 112 among national business programs.

The 2019 Dr. N.H. Paul Chung Memorial Lecture and Luncheon was held on August 27 at the Prince Waikiki Hotel. The lecture focused on climate change and featured keynote speaker Admiral Paul Zukunft, U.S. Coast Guard (retired).

The Shidler College of Business welcomed new and returning Shidler and pre-business students to the 2019-20 school year during its annual Shidler Day event on September 5.

The Shidler Alumni Association’s (SAA) annual Dine Around event was attended by nearly 100 alumni and friends on August 21 at the International Market Place in Waikiki. The unique networking event is an opportunity for alumni and friends to mix and mingle in a casual environment, as well as make new meaningful business connections.

On Thursday, June 20, 2019, ten teams of founders graduated from the 2019 Summer Startup Launchpad, presented by the Pacific Asian Center for Entrepreneurship (PACE) at the Shidler College of Business. Each team made 7-minute presentations to a panel of entrepreneurship and innovation experts, and received certificates for completing the rigorous requirements of the 6-week program. The celebratory event also selected two teams, which were voted by their peers “Most Likely to Orbit,” based on the founders’ progress during the program. All teams received claps and cheers from their cohort mates.

Northwestern Mutual Hawai’i has committed $50,000 to establish an endowed scholarship to support full-time undergraduate students at the Shidler College of Business at UH Mānoa.

The former securities executive Will K. Weinstein is returning to the University of Hawai‘i at Mānoa to moderate his annual Ethics Conversation Series. Nearly 350 donors and students attended the UH Mānoa Shidler College of Business Scholarship Luncheon at the Hilton Hawaiian Village and Resort. The annual event honors scholarship donors and their student recipients, and allows them to meet one another.

First Insurance Company of Hawai‘i (FICOH), the oldest and largest insurance company headquartered in Hawai‘i, has donated $500,000 to fund a second faculty endowment at the UH Mānoa Shidler College of Business.  The First Insurance Company of Hawaii Distinguished Professorship in Insurance will be matched dollar-for-dollar by the college for a total endowment value of $1 million.
