Mandatory Advising

Mandatory Advising for Newly Admitted Business Students: Spring 2023

Congratulations on your admission to the Shidler College of Business!  We look forward to welcoming you and working with you to achieve your academic goals.  

Mandatory advising for newly admitted business students is a one-time requirement and you will not have further mandatory advising requirements in the future.  However, this does not prohibit you from meeting with an advisor if you have further questions after the completion of your requirement.

Students have two options to fulfill the mandatory advising requirement: attend an in-person session and submit a graduation pathway or complete an online asynchronous Laulima quiz (students can complete on their own time by the deadline, with no specified meeting day/time).

Please refer to your official admissions letter for the link to sign-up for in-person sessions.  Students must attend for the full session (1 hour), submit an evaluation, and upload their graduation pathway (which will be worked on during the session). Failure to complete all three items will result in a 1-3 day delay in registration for Fall 2023.

If you are unable to attend an in-person session, you may opt to complete the online option:

The Mandatory Advising Quiz (located in Laulima) is due on March 31, 2023 at 11:59pm HST.  No late submissions will be accepted.  You will have a maximum of three attempts (unlimited time); the quiz is out of 20 questions and your score will correspond with a registration hold (for Fall 2023), as follows:
-15 to 20 questions correct: no hold
-13 to 14 questions correct: 1-day hold
-11 to 12 questions correct: 2-day hold
- 0 to 10 questions correct: 3-day hold

Complete an online evaluation, which will be emailed to you (every Friday) after completion of your quiz, with a one week deadline.
-A one-day delay in registration will result if the online evaluation is not completed.

Don’t forget to download a copy of the Shidler BBA Student Handbook, located in the Resources section of Laulima.  Your access to the Laulima site will be removed in May 2023.

*You are also welcome to meet one-on-one with an academic advisor to seek further clarification!  Please note that meeting with an advisor will not fulfill the mandatory advising quiz requirement.  Please call (808) 956-8215 to schedule an appointment.

Failure to complete all requirements will result in a delay in next semester's registration.
