The Pacific Asian Center for Entrepreneurship and E-Business (PACE):
Shidler Hatchery

The Shidler Hatchery provides a supportive environment that will help student entrepreneurs start their ventures. Teams are awarded space in the hatchery six months at a time and receive office space and services that enable them to develop their businesses. The hatchery is located within the Pacific Asian Center for Entrepreneurship & E-Business (PACE) at the Shidler College of Business.

Application deadline for Spring Semester tenancy is December 1, 2008.

Fall 2008 Hatchery Tenants

Adama Materials is an early-stage, Hawaii-based, materials company focused on the commercialization of its patent-pending nanotechnologies to produce novel nanoresins and nonoprepregs.

Aloha Island Adventures provides unique inter-island travel packages to tourist groups and school groups, in which they maximize adventures and minimize planning on the part of the customer.

Services

  • Dedicated desk space
  • Library, internet access, printer, copier, fax machine, mail services, meeting tables, conference room, video-conferencing system, general office supplies
  • Priority mentoring from PACE staff, university faculty, community business leaders and entrepreneurs
  • Invitations to seminars, workshops and guest speakers featuring topics of importance to entrepreneurs

Admission Criteria

Teams will be selected by a committee based on the criteria below:

  • At least two members of the team must be currently enrolled UH students
  • Ability to articulate business model and entrepreneurial opportunity
  • Desire, dedication and motivation to succeed
  • Willingness to adhere to policies and procedures of the program and facility
  • Teams must demonstrate adequate progress in order to retain their space in subsequent terms

Team Requirements

  • All teams entering the hatchery must sign an agreement regarding use of facilities
  • Each team must submit a statement of goals for the semester
  • If not already completed, team must complete a business plan during the semester
  • Each team must submit a monthly one-page progress report on their activities within the hatchery
  • All teams will be expected to meet regularly with professionals-in-residence and participate in various PACE events
