2008 Hall of Honor Awards — Recap

L to R: 2008 Hall of Honor inductees Robert Clarke, Richard Ha, Richard Leung and Paul Higo

This year's alumni Hall of Honor Awards banquet was a huge success! Over 400 gathered at the Hilton Hawaiian Village to honor our 2008 inductees—Robert Clarke, retired chairman, president and CEO of Hawaiian Electric Industries; Richard Ha, president and founder of Hamakua Springs Country Farms; Paul Higo, managing partner of Deloitte & Touche LLP; and Richard Leung, managing director & head of Wealth Management of UBS Securities Company Ltd., China.

Highlights of the evening included a lively performance by Ma'ohi Nui who opened the festivities with Tahitian drumming and a keynote speech by Michael Garvey, former chief executive officer and chairman of Saltchuk Resources Inc. Garvey spoke about his experience in overseeing more than 20 independent companies and shared his insights on Saltchuk's investments in local companies including Young Brothers, Hawaiian Tug & Barge, Maui Petroleum, Hawaii Petroleum and the cargo division of Aloha Airlines.

Thank you to all of the alumni and supporters who made this year's event a success and a special mahalo to Mistress of Ceremonies Barbara Tanabe and title sponsor Hawaii Business magazine.

About the Hall of Honor Awards

Since 1992, prominent business alumni were inducted into the College of Business Alumni Hall of Honor during Business Night, an event that has gained significant recognition over the years for providing mentoring opportunities and student awards.

Starting from 2006, the College has showcased the Hall of Honor awards in an evening of its own, and expand the induction of the honorees to include outstanding non-alumni business professionals who have contributed to the College and to our community.
